For areas west of the Princess Highway between Termeil and East Lynne it is too late to leave, seek shelter from the fire.

For the areas of Durras, Depot Beach, Pebbly Beach, Pretty Beach and Bawley point, leave now towards Ulladulla or Batemans Bay. Roads may be closing.

If you are at Flat Rock or Termeil evacuate now towards Ulladulla.

RFS said the Currowan fire is expected to reach the Princes Highway tonight or tomorrow.

This will cut access to coastal communities.

There is a significant amount of smoke in the area.

Firefighters are working in the area to protect properties where possible.

Reports of plane down on Racecourse Beach

We are checking Facebook reports a plane has crash landed on Racecourse Beach at Ulladulla.

Smoke is affecting traffic in both directions north of Termeil on the Princes Highway as the Currowan bushfire pushes towards the coast.

A fire has started east of the highway on the Meroo Point Road, north of Termeil.

Visibility is poor. Please take care.

Current Situation

  • Fire activity has increased this afternoon due to strong westerly winds. The fire is spreading quickly in an easterly direction towards the Princes Highway.
  • The fire has crossed the Clyde River and is burning to the west of the Princes Highway.
  • There is a significant amount of smoke in the area.
  • Firefighters are working in the area to protect properties where possible.

AREAS WEST OF THE PRINCES HIGHWAY BETWEEN TERMEIL AND EAST LYNNE

  • Seek shelter as the fire impacts. It is too late to leave.

DURRAS, DEPOT BEACH, PEBBLY BEACH, PRETTY BEACH, BAWLEY POINT

  • Leave now towards Ulladulla or Batemans Bay.
  • Roads may be closed by fire later today.
  • Do not leave it until it is too late to leave. Take action now.

FLAT ROCK AND TERMEIL AREA

  • Leave now towards Ulladulla.

  • Ulladulla Civic Centre, 81B Princes Hwy, Ulladulla
  • Hanging Rock Sports Club Function Centre, Hanging Rock Place, Batemans Bay

  • Do not be in the path of the fire.
  • Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Wear protective clothing and footwear. Cover all exposed skin.
  • If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
  • If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000).

Latest bushfire update

A bush fire is burning in the Currowan State Forest. The fire has burnt more than 6,900 hectares and is being controlled on Sunday, December 1.

We’re all in this together

Friday afternoon, Wason Street, Ulladulla. These Southern Tablelands RFS volunteers wait for a meal before doing another nightshift on the Currowan fire ground. Two days later and that fire has turned into a monster.
